Performing a Hard Refresh on Your Browser

Have you encountered a webpage that seems stuck, displaying outdated content or malfunctioning elements? Performing a hard refresh can often resolve such issues by clearing the browser cache and forcing the browser to reload the page from scratch.

Note: Clicking the "Refresh" button in your browser alone is not a hard refresh.  A hard refresh clears the cache, so any unsaved data and form inputs might be lost.

Here's how you can perform a hard refresh on any desktop browser:

 Google Chrome

Windows/Linux

Hold down Ctrl and click the ⟳ Reload button.

Or, hold down Ctrl and press F5.


Mac OS

Hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift key and then press R.

Or, hold ⇧ Shift and click the ⟳ Reload button.



 Mozilla Firefox

Windows/Linux

Hold down Ctrl and ⇧ Shift and then press R.

Or, hold down Ctrl and press the F5.


Mac OS

Hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift and then press R.

Or, hold down ⇧ Shift and click the ⟳ Reload button.



 Safari

Mac OS

Hold down ⌘ Cmd and Option and then press R.



 Microsoft Edge

Windows/Linux

Hold down Ctrl and click the ⟳ Refresh button.

Or, hold down Ctrl and press F5.


Performing hard refresh on your mobile device

Performing hard refresh on a mobile device is a bit more tricky as you cannot simply press Cmd + Shift + R (or Alt + Shift + R, if you’re on PC).

 Google Chrome

Android

  1. In Chrome, tap the menu button in the upper right-hand (three vertical dots) and select “Settings” from the dropdown menu.
  2. Scroll down and tap “Privacy”.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Clear Browsing Data”. 
  4. Tap “Clear Data”.


 Mozilla Firefox

Android/iPhone

  1. Tap the “Options” icon at the bottom right of your screen.
  2. Tap the cogwheel icon labeled “Settings”.
  3. Find the “Privacy” section in the Settings menu, and tap “Data Management”.
  4. Select the data you’d like cleared and tap “Clear Private Data.” Then tap “OK.”


 Safari

iPhone/iPad

  1. Tap the cogwheel icon labeled “Settings”.2. 
  2. Scroll down and tap “Safari”.
  3. Tap “Clear History and Website Data”.
  4. Confirm “Clear History and Website Data”.
