Hortis will run in your favourite browser and you only have to visit your dedicated hortis domain "https://mygarden.hortis.com" and you are good to go. No further action is needed.
However, if you prefer a more immersive experience, you can "install" Hortis as a desktop/home screen shortcut, which will allow Hortis to run and behave more as an independent application on your device outside the browser.
How to set up a shortcut to Hortis on your home screen?
Hortis is a progressive web application (PWA) which means that it can be installed on your home screen and run and behave very similarly to a standalone application. However, the application will always be loading the latest version so no further software update will be required. To install Hortis on your home screen, follow the steps below:
On Windows
- With a Chrome and Edge browser, log in to your hortis website.
- Tap the three-dot menu button in the tabs tray and select “Install App” or ”Install”.
On Mac OS
- With a Chrome or Edge browser, log in to your hortis website.
- Tap the three-dot menu button in the tabs tray and select ”Install”.
On Linux
- With a Chrome or Edge browser, log in to your hortis website.
- Tap the three-dot menu button in the tabs tray and select ”Install”.
On Android Smartphones or tablets
- With a Chrome or Firefox browser, log in to your hortis website.
- Tap the three-dot menu button in the tabs tray and select “Install App” or ”Install”.
On Apple iOS (iPhone or iPad)
- With a Safari browser, log in to your hortis website.
- Select the Share up-arrow at the bottom of the screen and slide up until you see, Add to Home Screen.
Note: The benefit of starting Hortis from the home screen is that you will no longer see the browser navigation bar, giving you more screen realestate. However, the back button on the Safari browser will also disappear. To navigate back, use the swipe gestures instead.
