Reducing screen glare in the sun

It is wonderful to be out in sunny weather but many can find it difficult to read the screen on a device in strong sunlight.

Here are some helpful tips that you might apply to make it easier to be out in a sunny garden with your smartphone and tablet.

  1. Get an anti-glare screen protector.
An anti-glare screen protector can be purchased online and will also protect your screen from damage.
  2. Wear polarized sunglasses.
This may initially have the opposite effect as the polarized filter can in some cases block all light waves from the device. If that is the case, turn the screen 90 degrees in either direction. This will align the polarizing filter on your screen with the one on your sunglasses, and the light from your screen will be able to pass through to your eyes.
  3. Move to a shady area.
Although being a very obvious option, it is worth keeping it in mind.
  4. Switch to high contrast mode on your device.
This option is normally found under accessibility settings on your device. If this does not have the desired effect, you can try inverting the colours or increase brightness.
  5. Knit yourself a laptop sock.
    Instructions can be found here.

Make sure you protect yourself from sun exposure, stay hydrated and enjoy keeping you collection up to date wherever you are.
